Thing #50 – The Galápagos Islands

As I write this I still can’t believe I’ve been to the Galápagos Islands. A dream trip which is a new edition to my 101 Things list after I managed to bag a last minute 8 day cruise around the Islands.

The Islands which were the inspiration for Charles Darwin’s theory of evolution are jam packed with wildlife. Over the 8 days I got to swim with sea turtles and sea lions. Go face to face with huge iguanas and giant tortoises and marvel at the beautiful birds, dolphins and pink flamingos. I was even lucky enough to even have my 34th birthday out on the Islands.

In this video I show just some of the animals that I was lucky enough to see, try on a giant tortoise shell, swim with sea turtles and also say a few words about what it means to me to have my first birthday in my 30’s without fear of cancer.

Tips for travel:

  • You can save hundreds of pounds by booking last minute. There are many deals to be had both on the mainland and on the Islands themselves. There always spaces on most tours.
  • Booking tours whilst on the Islands is also a lot cheaper
  • Fitness level – anybody can do this type of trip. The boats are super comfy and the food is exceptional with loads of veg and fish. It’s also lovely and relaxing.
  • Take sea sickness tablets
  • Get ready to be amazed!
